In the heart of the mesmerizing rolling fields, dwelt a boy named Shepherd. His life was mostly pure, simple, and honest. His primary duty was essentially to care for his herd of ewes.

Their gentle baas and the whispering of the gales across the single tree on the mountaintop were his constant co-dwellers. Day after day, guarding his wards imbued in him a feeling of tranquil contentment.

Yet, there were the occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would yearn for company. On one such day out of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy devised a mischievous plot.

Stories of wolves preying on sheep had long been circulating in the village. So, the boy opted to used this fear and played a trick on the villagers.

One morning he ran into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The terrified villagers sprinted up the hills to offer assistance but saw no wolf.

The boy giggled at the dilemma on their faces. This game continued for a few days more. But, one day, a real wolf did charge at the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, here no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Devastated, he went back to the village only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the results of false alarms.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is difficult to earn back. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
